I’d be lying if I said, “when I was six I told my mom I wanted to be a baker and a coffee shop owner when I grow up.” Nope. Not even close. I knew I wanted to be a mom (and I got that right so there’s something). I grew up in Jacksonville, Florida where I also went to college. I graduated with the intentions to teach secondary education but didn’t, because well- mom life. We moved to Cincinnati eight short years ago and landed in the Three Rivers Community. If you know me, you know I can’t sit still. I quickly became pretty involved in whatever I could and with that, I was able to meet so many friends that I now proudly call family. One day, I was bored at home with the kids and decided to attempt to make those “pretty cookies”, you know the ones that actually resemble stuff. Cookies I could get artsy with. I made a batch of yellow Jacket cookies to send to school with my son. I proudly posted them on Facebook and then it happened. Friends started “ordering” cookies and I LOVED it. I loved creating sweets for them so much I accidently created the crazy cookie business for which we now call Happy Flour Sweets. Five fabulous years worth of learning new techniques, building a client base of over 1,400 customers, and thousands of cookies later it happened again. This time with a home for the crazy cookie business and more importantly-a home for the community. This time on purpose. It’s wild looking back really, because though I wanted to be a teacher, I have so many more years of experience the coffee industry. Those jobs were always my favorite and I think I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart, so why not?! If not me then who? Java Jackets was created with you in mind. You see, along my journey of rolling hundreds of pounds of dough I have also connected with real people with real needs in our community. Fun fact-It’s hard to connect and help folks behind the walls of your own home. I’ve finally found what I wanted to be when I grow up and this is it. I want to be there for my community and I want nothing more than for Java Jackets to serve as a destination for the community to gather, refuel, and to add a little joy to anyone’s day-to-day routine. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this little neighborhood coffee house and I am sure it’s nothing short of exciting! I hope to see you soon!
